Recordings are obtained as follows
Once an individual has either put themselves forward or been suggested as a subject, a member of the group contacts them to obtain their consent and to arrange a convenient time to conduct the interview.
At the time of the interview, two group members will attend, one to ask the questions and the other one to take care of the recording equipment.
Four tapes are needed for each recording, 1) Master, 2) First Copy, 3) Second copy, 4) Third copy.
* The Master is deposited at the County records Office in Whitehaven.
* The First Copy is given to the Interviewee for them to keep.
* The Second Copy is the groups working copy ( for compilations etc)
* The Third Copy is used for transcribing, then becoming part of the group archive when completed.
Equipment
The groups present recording equipment currently comprises of the following :-
Initial recordings are done on Eiki 5090 cassettes recorders ( the group presently has 2 of these)
The microphones currently being used are Pressure Zone types, these are flat plate microphones which are relatively unobtrusive yet effective.
The group also has a dedicated copy machine to obtain best quality copies of recordings.
The copy machine is also able to make compilation tapes of various subjects which the group is currently experimenting with.
Normally recordings are made on 90 minute cassettes, although we have used some special 100 minute cassettes donated to us by TDK.
